The Windeck castle ruins were on our way on a bike tour today. Unfortunately we stood in front of locked gates. A sign said that visiting the ruins was currently not possible while the beer garden was open. The beer garden was closed anyway.
Top! Great location above the roofs of Weinheim ..........
The view is very nice. And for a small fee you can also go up the tower. The area is also excellent for walking.
Very nice.
Castle ruins with a great view of Weinheim. There is a small parking lot right by the castle ruins. The access road is very narrow. It is therefore advisable to park at the Wachenbergstrasse / Hummel fork.
An exhausting climb but then an overwhelming view. Unfortunately, the tower was closed due to the corona. Super nice service in the beautiful vault.
Very beautiful castle ruins with an attached beer garden ?. Price / performance is good.
Very ..... very ...... very unfriendly boss ..... nobody needs it, what a shame for this location ....
They are being very careful right now about COVID. I saw them sanitizing the hand rails. This is good. Everything here was perfect. Good service. Good food. And excellent views. But the tower is closed.
We set out on foot ... no problem for experienced hikers and athletes. Even more difficult for permanent office chairs. But the view - phenomenal! The descent is much more relaxed - as a reward there is a beer downstairs in the old town.
Small but nice, beautiful view and friendly, open-minded staff
A fascinating castle, rich in culture and history. ideal for a break with a fantastic panoramic view of Weinheim
The breakfast buffet was great, everything your heart desires, the view priceless. Well organized despite Corona and everything worked out. Any time
Beautiful place with an amazing view. Good selection of beers for those who want to rest a bit from the long walk up.
Very nice place to be and the hike is well worth the view! some people had thrown trash on the floor which was unacceptable.
Easy to get there, plenty of parking. Great view, nice local people
We were waiting for coffe 36min, we wanted espresso but he told us machine its not working.
Super
The restaurant and the beer garden are in the castle ruins. Very cozy and romantic. Unfortunately we were there outside of opening hours, a short but breathtaking climb. Reachable from the market place in about 20 minutes. Simple snacks and Schriersheim wine at normal prices on the menu. We will come back (after 5pm) and will surely have a nice evening.
A beautiful castle ruin over the roofs of Weinheim. We were here to organize a wedding, which is great possible. Along the wall with the most beautiful view, there are a few small niches in which the tables stand. This makes it very cozy, with a little more privacy but just as communicative! Beautiful!
It is a castle ruin, from which there is a beautiful view of the surrounding area. The courtyard is freely accessible and very romantic, as it is adapted to sit in the adjacent restaurant. Access to the tower is charged 50 cents, which is voluntarily put in the money box. A spiral stone staircase leads to the tower. The ruins can be reached on foot or by car, but the car park is not very large.
We have been to the Windeck twice for New Year's Eve 2013/2014 and once today just for fun and I have to say it is really a very nice castle ruin. Especially not far from the city center of Christmas so you can z. B nice in summer with an ice cream. The walk from the ice cream parlor / old town to the castle is just 15 minutes on foot. The view of the castle above is breathtaking and you can see all of Weinheim and the surrounding area from above.
WONDERFUL VIEW VERY ROMANTIC AT NIGHT
Awesome place for team events.
Castle ruins, without a guide. Various events are held here. Drive to the building.
Fantastic views! The expanse of the valley and the entire view of Se inhein, Mannheim and the lot , till the Rhineland Pfalz, on a clear day will leave you mesmerized! Try the sunset ?
It's basically ruins and not much information about the place on site, just one or two signs. But it's beautiful and has a great landscape around to admire and has free entrance.
Neat beer garden at the castle with very friendly staff. The castle was built around 1100 and has been 'rebuilt' multiple times. Still a lot of history here and great views.
From weinheim city, the trekking to the top was not easy, and we don't like things which are easily available :p. The structure was demolished by some French king years ago, still it looks beautiful. Not so popular, but going there is worth it. Take some wine and glasses and enjoy the evening. Restaurant is also there in the castle. Best thing, Entry is free for everyone.
Interesting to visit one time. Great view from top of the town
Beautiful castle ruins. In fine weather you can walk in the wall between the castles. There are many paths and you have a nice view of the city.
I have only eaten there once in a private event last summer where they served asparagus and it was very good. I mean, it is not every day where you have the option to eat in a medieval tavern inside or on some ruins looking to an amazing view! You only have to pay some cents to get to the top of the tower and it totally worth.
A must visit place in Weinheim. It's a small hike up the hill to reach the castle. You have very clean WC available for free of cost and you have to pay 20 / 50 cents to walk up the tower to get a view of the town.
Typical Germany bar is closed when you want a beer DULL
Excellent burg and restaurants
Built to defend the monastery of Lorsch in the 12th century on land owned by someone else, the castle had a long history of conflict until it was blown up by the French. The ruins offer spectacular views of the Rhine valley, and is itself the most dramatic ruin on the Bergstraße. Worth a visit
Ok
A nice hike up the hill and you get a breast taking view of the nearby cities
Nice walk and great view over the City
Full of history, surprisingly well conserved!
Very nice view. You can walk up the tower. Very nice to look around.
Certainly a cozy place to have a drink in summer. The view extends to the Palatinate. If you don't want to run up, there are around 20 parking spaces at the castle.
The view from the castle was great, and the castle itself made me feel I'm in a movie shoot. Mesmerizing.
The “Windeck” is an old, mostly destroyed castle built in the early 12th century. It was meant to guard the town of Weinheim and surrounding properties. Its German name translates literally to “windy corner”. It was mostly destroyed by invading French troops in 1674 and never fully rebuilt. From the terrace you have very beautiful views of the city of Weinheim. There is a restaurant and an open-air beer garden during summer. All in all a very recommendable spot for a drink / coffee or a simple meal.
Views
Amazing!!!
Excellent view point. There's a cute little beer garden at the top while overlook the cute town. You can also go up the tower for even better views. Highly recommend hiking between the castles, it's a short walk partially paved but worth the experience. The trail is marked clearly to go between castles and the trails are well kept
